Annual Salary: $52,400 – $59,600

Job Description

SESI is seeking a Certified Recreational Therapist to support K-12 students in achieving their academic, behavioral, and social-emotional goals. The therapist will collaborate with school teams and families to deliver individualized guidance, implement SESI’s evidence-based instructional and behavioral strategies, and provide hands-on support for students’ recreational and developmental needs.

Key Responsibilities:

Work with students from diverse developmental, cultural, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds

Use SESI instructional models and curricula to teach skills, nurture confidence, and meet student needs

Develop and maintain individualized lesson plans and growth targets

Implement behavior management and intervention strategies, including de-escalation and crisis management

Maintain accurate student documentation, including IEPs, BIPs, incident reports, and high-risk evaluations

Supervise students during school activities, transitions, and Special Olympics participation

Track and report student progress toward academic, social, and emotional goals

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution

Certified Recreational Therapist

Commitment to continuous learning and feedback implementation

Adaptability, flexibility, and strong interpersonal skills

Physical Requirements

Ability to run short distances and respond quickly to student needs

Capacity to bend, kneel, crouch, and lift/assist students up to 50 pounds

Skill in managing fine motor tasks and using adaptive devices

Ability to operate a computer or tablet for up to 8 hours daily

Ability to observe and respond to non-verbal cues from students

Maintain composure during physically and emotionally demanding situations
