Exercise Physiologist – Residential Aged Care

About the Role

We are seeking an Exercise Physiologist to join our Residential Aged Care team. In this role, you will collaborate with facility leadership, nursing staff and allied health professionals to deliver safe, evidence-based exercise physiology services to residents.

You will be responsible for assessing, planning, delivering and evaluating individualised and group exercise programs aimed at improving or maintaining residents’ mobility, strength, balance and functional capacity. Your work will contribute to falls prevention, chronic disease management and overall quality of life.

These roles are across various Homes in Sydney Central region with Permanent Part Time or Full Time positions available.

All care is delivered in a resident-centred manner, aligned with the Aged Care Quality Standards, the Charter of Aged Care Rights, and Uniting policies and procedures.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive resident assessments including mobility, strength, balance, endurance, pain and functional capacity
  • Develop and implement individualised exercise programs aligned with resident goals and care plans
  • Deliver safe and effective 1:1 and group exercise sessions, adapting for frailty, chronic conditions and cognitive impairment
  • Contribute to falls prevention and post-fall reconditioning strategies in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team
  • Support residents living with dementia using appropriate communication and activity modifications
  • Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation and contribute to care planning and reviews
  • Identify and escalate clinical risks or changes in resident condition appropriately
  • Ensure exercise environments and equipment meet safety and infection control standards
  • Work collaboratively with residents, families and care teams to support continuity of care

About You

You are a compassionate and skilled professional who is committed to improving the wellbeing and independence of older people.

Essential

  • Tertiary qualification in Exercise Science (Exercise Physiology)
  • Accreditation with Exercise & Sports Science Australia (ESSA)
  • Current First Aid and CPR certification
  • Current Australian Driver’s Licence
  • Demonstrated experience (2+ years) in a relevant clinical setting

Experience & Capabilities

  • Experience working with older people, including frailty, falls risk, dementia and complex comorbidities
  • Ability to work both autonomously and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team
  • Strong communication, organisation and clinical reasoning skills
  • Commitment to person-centred, culturally safe and trauma-informed care
  • Confidence using clinical systems and maintaining accurate documentation

Desirable

  • Experience delivering strength and balance or falls prevention programs in aged care
  • Familiarity with dementia-friendly approaches and communication strategies
  • Experience participating in care planning and multidisciplinary case conferences
