JOB SUMMARY
The Registered Respiratory Therapist performs routine and specialized respiratory therapy procedures on patients as prescribed by a physician and directed by department protocol. Oversees the activities of the Respiratory Care Technicians and Respiratory Care Student/Trainees when assigned that responsibility by the Director or Cardiopulmonary Services. Ability to provide care to the neonate, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients. Utilizes knowledge of principles of growth and development appropriate to the patients age and condition to ensure that the unique physical and psychosocial needs of the patient are met. Involves appropriate individuals (i.e. patients family or guardian, outside agencies) in the continuing care of the patient as needed.
REQUIREMENTS
Required Associates Degree
Preferred High School Diploma Graduate of an accredited school for Respiratory Therapy required
Preferred Bachelors Degree
1-3 years Previous hospital experience required Preferred
CPR – AHA Healthcare Provider
NRP – Neonatal Resuscitation
ACLS – Advanced Cardiac Life Support
PALS – Pediatric Advanced Life Support
RRT – Registered Respiratory Therapist
RCP – Respiratory Care Practitioner
SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS
Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, pharmacology, respiratory disease, and management concepts RCP State license from the Maryland Board of Physicians RRT – AS PER NBRC
